Whenever content has to be made private, members have to be managed or permissions need to be handed out on only a sublevel of the entire website, people think of Organic Groups. This session will show you a powerful, yet more user-friendly alternative: Group.
Group for Drupal 7 was conceived well within the D8 development cycle. Having to compete with the giant that is OG, it still managed to get ~600 reported D7 installs with nothing but praise in its issue queue. This encouraged us to work on a Drupal 8 release and only weeks after its first alpha, we can already boast 200 reported D8 installs.
There’s a lot going on in OG that isn’t always what people want. It’s rather complex to set up and you need another entity for it to work its magic on. Enter Group: a solid alternative to OG, born in the spirit of Drupal 7’s Entity API and rewritten from scratch for Drupal 8 using all of the tools it has to offer.
During this session, we will demo the latest Drupal 8 release of the module and explain the concepts behind it.
Disclaimer: I have given this talk at DrupalCamp London before and it was very well received. You can find the recordings here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUv8UHhpN_8
P.S.: Due to social commitments I need to be on a flight out Friday afternoon/evening. I can therefore only present Thursday (preferred) or Friday morning.
